Fish and fishing have inspired artists for centuries, from anglers on Rembrandt’s riverbanks to carp in Japanese sumi-e paintings. This exhibition of works from a private collection explores the subject in 60 prints, drawings, and illustrated books from the 17th century to the present. A wealth of colored prints and watercolors illustrate advances in natural history, as well as the symbolism of fish in different historical periods and cultures. Angling lore, scientific study and humor are brought together to provide a fascinating view into the aquatic world.
