Food truck regulations could be getting an overhaul

In an effort to expand mobile food truck vending within the city limits, City Council’s Law and Legislation committee approved new amendments to the ordinance in the beginning of March.

The new amendments allow food trucks to vend during the posted parking time limits. In addition, the permitting process will be simplified so that food trucks can vend on private property. Trucks will still have to stay a minimum of 50 feet away from intersections and any restaurants with outside seating areas. In addition, the trucks would have to stay at least 1,000 feet away from businesses with entertainment permits between 1:00 am and 3:00 am, due to safety concerns of crowding.

The ordinance is still pending and will be voted on at full council in the coming weeks. For more information on the proposed changes to the food truck ordinance, click here (Sacramento Bee, City of Sacramento moves to loosen rules on food trucks).
