Take your cap off and salute our troops! In Downtown, there is no lack of celebration to honor these men and women who have fought to protect our freedom. Check out some of these local happenings around town.
Take a stroll to Capitol mall to see the Veterans Day Parade. November 11 from 10 am – 2 pm. Following the parade, a festival will take place on Capitol Mall featuring a children’s carnival, food trucks, and displays to celebrate our past and present heroes.
If you are a history buff, the Sacramento History Museum is offering free museum admission for veterans and military personnel in celebration of Veterans Day. To receive free museum admission, military personnel must present a valid military ID.
The California State Railroad Museum is proud to offer veterans and active military personnel complimentary excursion train rides on the Sacramento Southern Railroad plus complimentary Museum admission. With patriotic music playing aboard the trains, veterans and active military personnel are encouraged to wear their uniforms with pride while enjoying a special excursion train ride available at 1 pm, 2 pm, and 3 pm.
The excursion train rides are also open to the public at regular price while immediate family members accompanying veterans and active military personnel can enjoy the train ride at half-price.
Round out your Veterans Day at the Downtown Ice Rink. In appreciation for our troops, all military personnel and veterans skate free with a valid military identification card on Veterans Day. Located in the heart of Downtown Sacramento at St. Rose of Lima Park at 7th & K streets, the rink is the perfect holiday experience. It’s just a short stroll from light rail, Old Sacramento, the State Capitol, restaurants, and Sacramento Downtown Plaza.
