As Downtown Sacramento continues to transform into an 18-hour city with a vibrant nighttime economy, we look for creative ways to reimagine and reinvent the public spaces that make our city a better place to live, work and play. Located in the heart of downtown, the pedestrian experience from Old Sacramento to the Convention Center is poised for transformation through creative lighting and linkage enhancements.

Banner-Nights-OnNew LED lights were installed in December 2015. Strings of white LED market lights now illuminate both sides of K Street to enhance safety and provide a pedestrian-friendly, walkable thoroughfare from Old Sacramento to the Convention Center. This lighting project is made possible by a seamless public-private partnership with Regional Transit, the City of Sacramento, and K Street businesses.

We are hopeful that the addition of aesthetic LED street lighting will enhance future plans for pedestrian scale lighting from the city. This type of infrastructure will illuminate the charming and eclectic energy of The Kay, inviting visitors and residents to stroll the streets and enjoy the district’s diverse mix of restaurants, nightlife and entertainment venues. This is only the first phase of several lighting enhancements that will contribute to downtown’s vibrant setting.
