Theatre of Lights Frequently Asked Questions

Theatre of Lights is a free, family-friendly performance retelling ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas’ alongside stories of how Sacramento pioneers experienced calamities and even special appearances from Jack Frost. These performances take place on the balconies of our historic buildings on K street in the heart of Old Sacramento Waterfront. Produced by Downtown Sacramento Partnership, and conceived by Stage Nine Exhibitions

TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY – Wed. Nov. 27th 

5 PM: Pre-show performances & Speakers followed by Tree Lighting Ceremony 

6:15 PM: First Theatre of Lights Show begins (only 1 showing)

Fridays and Saturdays: Nov. 29^th – Dec. 21^st, shows at 6 PM & 7:30 PM

Some Irregular Show Dates:

Mon. Dec 23rd shows at 6 PM & 7:30 PM, & Tues. Dec 24^th show at 6 PM only.

This event is free to the public.

We suggest the best viewing spot is in the middle of K Street, closest to Front Street. (in between Steamers and Stage Nine) Please be mindful that K Street is the only closed street to thru traffic during this event.

Our VIP Area on-site is reserved for our sponsors only.

Guests are welcome to bring their own chairs but please know that the event does get crowded with a lot of people standing, which might obstruct your view.

Yes, ADA ramps are accessible on K Street.

ASL Interpreters will be present for our Tree Lighting Ceremony, Saturday showings, and our final show on Dec. 24^th. Please reach out to our Event Department if you require special accommodations. [email protected]

We have two main parking garages at the entrance of Old Sacramento.

• Tower Garage – 1289 Front Street, at Capitol Mall
• Old Sacramento Garage – 274 I Street, between 2nd & 3rd streets

Pre-pay rates of 25% off are available in these garages if reserving in advance.

The safety of our guests and staff is most important. Cancellation decisions are made by 10:00 AM the morning of the show and will be disseminated through our social media platforms. There is no rescheduling of events.

Yes. We kindly ask that all dogs remain on a leash for yours and others safety. Keep in mind that this event does get packed and may not be the best environment for our four-legged friends.
