AlphabetEx is a two-session workshop that introduces adults to the dynamic world of graffiti art through the unique combination of street art and martial arts. This class teaches not only the skills of graffiti but also the physical movement behind it, allowing participants to understand and embody the art form from a whole new perspective. Rooted in the fundamentals of graffiti writing, AlphabetEx is a hands-on experience where participants will learn how to spray-paint and bring expressive letters to life with bold, energetic strokes.
The first class begins with a body movement exercise for the letter “A,” immersing participants in the physical flow of graffiti writing. Moving into the workbook, you’ll explore essential techniques including lines, shapes, line styles, coloring, light sourcing, shadows, and outlines. After a break, the session resumes with another alphabetic movement to re-center and ground the group, leading into a creative exploration where you’ll draw your names in the bold, expressive style of graffiti.
In the second session, the focus shifts fully to spray-painting. Beginning with the body movement for the capital letter “A,” participants review skills from the previous session before moving to the walls. You’ll tape and prime your paper canvas, and then after another movement exercise, you’ll pick up your spray paint cans to apply the techniques learned, exploring the expressive freedom of graffiti art in a tangible, hands-on way.
AlphabetEx is more than an art class; it’s an exploration of the art and energy of graffiti, empowering participants to connect mind, body, and creativity as you master the language of graffiti writing through both physical movement and spray-painting skills.
