2016 Calling All Dreamers competition
Of 33 impressive business proposals submitted to the 2016 Calling All Dreamers competition, 10 Semi-Finalists have been selected!
After a review and public voting period, the 2016 grand prize winner will be announced in June 2016.
Calling All Dreamers is retail business plan competition produced by the Downtown Sacramento Foundation (DSF).
Our goal is simple. We want to foster Sacramento’s entrepreneurial spirit and cultivate the next generation of dreamers in Downtown Sacramento. The Shark Tank-style competition encourages entrepreneurs to compete for the chance to open a downtown storefront and earn a coveted business start-up package with essential resources and tools to turn their dream into reality.
Since the inaugural Calling All Dreamers competition in 2013, the DSF has helped 11 new businesses open in downtown Sacramento. In all, they have leased over 15,000 sf of retail space and created 10 full-time and 35-part-time jobs. New businesses include Andy’s Candy Apothecary, The Dailey Method, Ana Apple, Allspicery, Figs and Feta, Sun & Soil, Off the Chain Bike Bus Tours, Metro Juice, Benjamin’s Shoes, The Workspace: Fashion Incubator, and Whired Wine.
Congratulations to Heather Wong, owner of Allspicery and first time entrepreneur. As 2015 grand prize winner, Allspicery received a business start-up package valued at $100,000. Allspicery is the first one-stop spice shop in Sacramento, offering a curated selection of spices, salts, teas, and proprietary house-made spice blends sourced from around the world. Located at 1125 11th Street, the shop offers commonplace spices as well as obscure, hard-to-find ingredients. Spices are sold whole or freshly ground in-house, making the shop a veritable candy store for foodies.
